What is on your To Read list? When you’re working from home, you don’t the opportunity for water cooler conversations about what you’re reading or watching on tv. A lot of that is done online in your groups or tribes, right? Have you and your business tribe decided on books to read together yet?
In Quarter 1, I read three books via audiobook and wanted to share my thoughts. If you’re looking for business inspiration, these might be for you.
You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero
This has been circulating in my direct sales group in the last few months and I was intrigued. It was the right book to kick off the new year. Sincero is a rah rah cheerleader, encouraging readers to just take life by the reins and steer it. You’re the only one who can change the direction you’re going, so change it (if you’re not happy). There is nothing here that is mind-blowing or surprising. It was a great rah rah and reminder that we control our lives.
#Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso
The founder of Nasty Gal shares her insight and how she got to where she is now. I enjoyed it. I ended up reading her book after listening to episodes of her podcast. Amoruso interviews women entrepreneurs and senior executives – and she always starts with “What was your first job?” It’s a great question to start with because it sets up the interview and shows the listener that many, if not all, of these women leaders started with humble beginnings.
Start With Why by Simon Sinek
I caught a short Youtube video of Simon Sinek’s TED Talk “Start with Why” and was so intrigued, I looked up his book. He shares that the ‘why’ is the most important in anyone’s business, not the ‘how’ or ‘what.’ Why do you do what you do? You may have seen Sinek’s recent video on millennials. The book is ok. After being forced to read text books for school, this was similar to a bunch of case studies stapled together. I think it may be helpful to skim this; watching his TED Talk or short Youtube video might get you to the point faster.
What is on your business book list? Have you read these books? What did you think?
